Lalou Labradoodles is a small breeding facility in the picturesque community of Georgetown located in the Sierra Foothills of California, owned and operated by myself, Renee Cornish, and my husband, Marvin Cornish.
I have been in the dog world my whole life. My mother always had dogs while I was growing up and I developed my deep love of dogs at an early age. I purchased my first purebred dog, a Cairn Terrier, with my babysitting money when I was only 12 years old. I entered my puppy in obedience classes and showed him in AKC conformation and obedience trails.
I purchased my second purebred, a Siberian Husky, when I was 17 with a paycheck from my first job and proceeded to show my Husky in conformation and obedience trails, also.
In 1990 I moved to Georgetown and purchased my first purebred chocolate Labrador Retriever. I had spent more than 10 years researching Labrador Retriever breeders until I was satisfied that I had found the perfect breeder. My chocolate lab, Sara, had over 70 champions in a 3 generation pedigree. When it became clear that I was going to breed her, I spent the next 2 years researching Labrador breeders again and finally found the perfect stud.
Teddy came from a breeder with lines all the way to the queen of England's dogs. Teddy's pedigree had over 200 champions in a 7-generation pedigree with 40 of those in the first 3 generations. The resulting puppies had over 70 champions in a 3-generation pedigree. I bought my second breeding dam a few years later and started to show her in conformation classes. She won best in breed (the category that gives the points towards a championship) in her very first class against other adult male and female dogs when she was only 6 months old!
Sundae went on to achieve her own championship and the resulting puppies from her breeding to Teddy produced some of the finest Labradors the state of California has ever produced. After breeding chocolate Labradors for over 12 years, I neutered my stud and spayed the remaining females and let them live out the rest of their lives in my home as loving family pets.
In 2009, my mother came to me and told me about the cutest dog she had ever seen at the grocery store. I asked what type of dog it was and she said, the people told her a Labradoodle. “A Labradoodle, what the heck is that?”, I asked. It is a cross between a purebred Labrador Retriever and a purebred Poodle. At first I was appalled that people were breeding a mixed breed mutt and trying to pass it off as something spectacular.
Still, I kept an eye on the development of the Labradoodle and I quickly realized that the breed truly was a super-dog. I found out that not only are Labradoodles great for people with dog allergies, they are intelligent, loving, loyal, versatile, friendly, people-pleasing, companions for everyone wanting the perfect dog for their family.
After gaining the knowledge I needed about the Labradoodle breed, I spent the next 5 years researching Labradoodle breeders just as I had with every other breed of dog I have ever bred. I purchased my stud from a small, but reputable breeder in Placerville, CA. BayLee is the best dog I have ever owned. Hands down, he is the most loving, gentle, loyal, people pleasing, people loving, willing, intelligent, obedient dog I have ever had. He is a true gentleman.
